What is a Virtual Race?

A virtual race is a race you can run anywhere in the world!  You run WHEN you want and WHERE you want.  You can even run on a treadmill.  For this race, you keep track of your mileage and report it each day using the online form provided via email once the race starts.

Do I have to complete my chosen distance all at once?

No!  You have the whole week to complete your distance.   Do it all at once, do some of it every other day, or take small chunks each day - it's your choice!

Is there a bib to wear?

Yes. You will receive an email with your bib number after your registration is received and processed.   You can use your bib in digital form to post your progress, challenge others to compete with you, or you can even print it out and wear it to pose for pictures during race week.

How do I post my Results?

You will receive a link to use for posting results during race week.  As you reach race milestones, you'll receive badges and become eligible for prize drawings, so be sure to post as you go!

How do I enter contests and giveaways?

Stay up-to-date on our Facebook group.  We will post all of the daily drawings on the Facebook group.  For race milestone prize drawings, you'll be automatically entered if you post your progress and have reached that day's milestone goal by 8pm the day of the drawing.

How do I measure my distance?

You can drive a route in your vehicle to establish a known distance for a regular route, or you can use a variety of different tracking apps.   Some that you might use are listed below:

MapMyFitness:

What kinds of movement count for my distance?

You can run outside, you can walk outside, you can run or walk on a treadmill, or use an elliptical! Biking and or other forms of mobility involving wheels doesn't count- with the exception of wheelchairs.  Try to give yourself a little challenge beyond your current fitness level.   For some, this may mean tracking their movement using a pedometer, and choosing to take the stairs.   For others, it will be adding some run to their walk... or choosing a longer distance than they would normally attempt in a week.

Should I get friends to join?

Yes! Please do - remember that not only is this event fun for all who participate, but it benefits a great cause.    And, if you get three other friends to join you, you can take advantage of the discount in the Home Run Team registration.

What's a Home Run Team?

Any group of four runners - a family, a group of co-workers or friends.   Each person picks a distance to complete (they do not need to be the same distance) and will report their own progress using their own bib number.

Home Run Teams get a price break on their registration $120 total cost, instead of $140.   All medals for a Home Run Team will be shipped to the same address upon race completion.

When will I get my finisher medal?

Medals will be mailed out within a week after the close of the race.   If demand for the race exceeds expectations, we may order a second set of medals, and have a second round of shipping.    If that happens, you'll be notified of your placement in the second medal shipping round via email before the end of the race.

Who Can Participate?

Anyone! Young or old, fast or slow – we encourage participants of all ability levels. Wheelchair participants too!!  Participating in a virtual race is not only fun, but it’s good for you.

Can I Have a Tax Receipt?
Yes. The majority of your race registration will count as a donation to the FirstSwing Foundation. Therefore, we will send a tax receipt for that portion.

I don’t live in the United States. Can I still participate?
Absolutely!!! Sign up today. The beauty of a virtual race is that it can be completed anywhere.
